Imagine yourself in a position where you’ve worked tirelessly to build up the perfect website for your company, only for it to reach a very small number of people. It isn’t the most ideal situation.

Building up traffic to your website is as important as creating it. There’s no point in having a site if no-one is clicking onto it, right?

Well, I’m here to show you a few really cool ways to build up that all important traffic to your website, and best of all they won’t cost you a penny to implement.

Social media is a great way to market and attract consumers onto your site.  Instagram, Facebook Ads, Blogging, SEO, Google Ads, LinkedIn – these are all great channels to use to get traffic onto your site. But this can get overwhelming to think about when there are so many platforms to choose from.

So, where do we even start?

It’s no surprise that marketers, small businesses and entrepreneurs are confused about which traffic strategy is right for them.

That’s why I’m going to show you 6 ways to get traffic to your website FAST and FREE.

1. Improve your existing rankings in Google

There’s this saying that SEO is long term, but that’s not entirely true.

If your website is already ranking on page 2 for a particular keyword or search query, that makes it a lot easier to get to page 1 and start driving traffic to your website a lot FASTER.

To find keywords that your website is ranking for currently, head over to Google Search Console. Click on Performance, and look at the keywords your site is ranking for.

Pay particular attention to the keywords you are ranking on page 2 to 5, as those are potentially strong opportunities to improve your traffic.

Once you’ve identified the keywords, it’s time to revisit your content and get to work on your pages.

Maybe the quality of the content needs improving to compete with page 1, or perhaps it needs better on page SEO optimisation.

I’ve actually built a tool that helps you to analyse your content and provide recommendations. Click here to find out more about it.

2. Email list – create a conversation

Do you have an existing email list?

Then there’s traffic and people waiting for you to share something with them.

Best of all, you are in control of this audience, you may need to keep in touch and remain at the forefront of their mind.

So, what could you share with them?

  • Share a quick win or hack that you want to share with them
  • Share an offer
  • Share a company announcement

These are super simple and very quick ways to stay in touch with your audience whilst driving more traffic towards your website.

3. Partner with influencers

Partnering with other influencers in your space with an existing audience is a great way to get in front of a larger crowd quickly.

Now, rather than finding influencers you don’t know who will probably charge you an arm and a leg on behalf of talking about you, can you find someone in your existing network that you can work with?

If you can’t then is there a way to partner up with the influencer on a joint venture basis where perhaps you both get 50% of the proceeds.

So, whilst in the short term you don’t keep as much of the revenue, longer term you now have a larger audience you can build the business on.

Or maybe there’s an influencer who is interested in getting in front of your audience in exchange for sharing your brand with their audience. Most of the time here, you’re going to have to find influencers in a similar situation to yours.

4. Interview an expert

Another great way to drive some traffic onto your website is by interviewing an expert in your respected field.

You could interview those experts and feature them on your site. There’s a good chance they have an existing audience who will find out about you when they share their interview.

Not only will this bring in traffic but more importantly, it’s going to help you establish authority in the space.

As Jim Rohn says, “you’re the average of the five people spend the most time with”.

Imagine your brand online is a person, who do people see it being associated with?

5. Ask an expert for a quote

Speaking of experts, you could ask them to contribute to one of your pieces.

Like or share their views, as well as any of their tips.

It’s interesting, there’s three things that happen when you do this.

  • You’re article has more credibility
  • The piece is going to be more engaging
  • Above all, you’ve increased chances of getting some early traffic if the expert shares it with their audience.

Reaching out to experts, either by interviewing and collaborating with them, or by asking them for a simple quote, are simple ways to drive traffic to your website.

6. Write for other larger websites

Sounds simple, but if you find the right site to write for then you could see a ton of traffic come your way.

There’s plenty of sites that are open to and looking for other experts offering content.

So, first you need to find the sites.

You can do it simply by using Google. Let me show you a few search queries you can enter to find relevant sites that are looking for contributors:

  • search for [Industry] write for us
  • [Industry] guest author
  • [Industry] guest post

You’re going to come across a bunch of sites that are open to contribution, but before pitching an idea you need to verify whether it’s worth your time and effort.

So, go over to SimilarWeb.com and enter in the site.

You can now easily look at the estimated traffic of that site and see whether it’s worth pursuing.

Going through this exercise is also going to grow the number of sites mentioning and linking back to your site which has longer term benefits from an SEO perspective.

So there you have it, six simple and very quick steps you can take to build up that all important traffic to your site.
